Basketball (Boys) – Arielle Mims
With winter sports nearing the end, Radnor Boys Basketball has been giving their best efforts to conclude the successful season. On January 30th, RBB played against Marple Newtown and won 55-46. Elijah Sellers and Kessy Cox both contributed 15 points each–over half of the total points for Radnor. The next day, the team versed Holy Ghost Prep. Although HGP might’ve led at the end of the third quarter, RBB regrouped and went in for a win of 70-64. Elijah Sellers’ offensive performance displayed his wide range of skills, as he dropped a three and was also dominant in the paint. To finish out the week, the boys took on Strath Haven in their senior night game. Strath Haven put pressure on Radnor in the beginning, pressing full court in the first quarter. Ultimately, Strath Haven fell to Radnor (64-39); every player contributed points to the win. In the last regular game of the season, RBB played against Springfield. It was a close game throughout the first half, with SHS leading by only one point at halftime. But Radnor showed their impeccable ability to handle business and beat Springfield 37-27 once they gained the lead. On the 10th, Radnor battled Conestoga in the first round for the Central League title. Both teams brought intensity to the court, with a mere foot of space left by a defender being taken advantage of by both teams to shoot some quick pull-up jumpers. In the end, Radnor won 55-50, with a steal and layup into the basket by Sawyer Smith to cement the win in the last ten seconds. The boys then took on #1 seed Lower Merion on February 15th in the Central League Championship. Throughout the first half, the game was extremely close, with LM leading by only one point at halftime. During the third quarter, Radnor scored 4 points to LM’s 20, which is what effectively led Radnor to their 54-68 loss. On Wednesday, Radnor took on Sun Valley in the PIAA D1 Quarterfinal game. In a close matchup, Radnor unfortunately lost 34-35. This Saturday, Radnor Boys Basketball plays against Penncrest, so we wish them luck!
Basketball (Girls) – Kayla Cormier & Audrey Rubenstein
RGB finished their regular season off with an outstanding record of 18-4. They earned a 3rd seed spot in districts and the 4th seed in the Central League with their hard work throughout the season. On February 8th, the girls played against 5th seed Penncrest in the first round of the Central League playoffs. Kate Gallagher and Nyah Yao led the team with 13 points each alongside Caroline Monahan’s 9 points. Despite the team coming back from being down 7 at the half, Penncrest made a shot with 3 seconds left in the game, leading to an end score of 39-40. With time off until district playoffs, the girls put in the work at practice and attended opponents’ games to scope out the competition. When the game against Villa Maria on February 21 came around, senior star Blayse Jennings had to sit the bench due to complications in filing paperwork for the PIAA. With a major player out, underclassman Bree Simpson stepped up to start her first ever varsity game. The girls hustled throughout the whole game and put in their best efforts but ended up losing 38-53. RGB’s season isn’t over yet and the team is fired up to play Pheonixville on February 23rd. Show some support and come to the game at home on Friday to cheer the girls onto a win!
