Spring has finally arrived and many of our student athletes are bearing the last days of cold weather to prepare for many competitive matchups. Be on the lookout for the talented teams and their successes!

WINTER:
Basketball (Boys) – Arielle Mims
The Radnor Boys Basketball season has officially ended. On March 8th, RBB took on Pocono Mountain West in the first round of the PIAA Championship. Radnor won 63-44, securing a spot in the second round against Archbishop Ryan. Although there was a small gap between the two teams in the first half, Archbishop Ryan did not come out to play and scored 24 points to Radnor’s 5 in the 3rd quarter; RBB was ultimately not able to make a comeback in the last quarter. Elijah Sellers contributed the most points, 19, with a 10-point contribution from Henry Pierce and a total of 17 points from the rest of the team. Radnor Boys Basketball had many expectations to rise up to this season, and the team did not disappoint. The team ended their season with a 21-5 record, which is a remarkable standing. Good luck and great job to the seniors who led the team to many victories, as well as being role models for the rising players on the team. RBB will be working hard in the off season in order to be ready to continue on the legacy of Radnor Boys Basketball next season!
Basketball (Girls) – Kayla Cormier & Audrey Rubenstein
After a week off from playing, RGB matched up against number 1 seed Archbishop Wood in the first round of states. The girls were hopeful coming into the game after watching film and putting in the work at practice. Starting in the first quarter, RGB went on a ten-point run to put them ahead of Archbishop Wood. Throughout the game, it was a close score with the point differential only being 5. Towards the end, the Vikings began hitting long range threes to increase the difference. The starting five contributed to the score with the average points scored by each player being 8. Despite the team’s best efforts, the final score was 43-55. RGB is excited for what the future holds for next year after ending the season with a 19-8 record. Congratulations to all of the seniors on their hard work and the girls are excited to see what the future holds.
Swimming (Girls) – Maly Lindgren
While all of RGSwim had good performances at the PIAA AAA State Swimming Championships at Bucknell University, sophomore Alice Lake had an especially great swim in her 100 backstroke, where she took 11th overall. Besides swimming, the girls had fun cheering on friends, watching state records being broken, and revealing the iconic Radnor Girls States Team merch of 2024: Aritzia hoodies. Although the season has officially ended, the team looks forward to the final hurrah, which will take place at the banquet on April 7th—where the underclassmen will bid the seniors farewell and next year’s captains will be announced. That’s a wrap for RGSwim news for 2024, but the team is already eagerly anticipating next season!
SPRING:
Color Guard – Sofiia Kuzmenko
These past two weeks have been busy for the color guard. Two weeks ago, the guard competed at Upper Moreland High School, where they earned a score of 70.79. Last week, the performers had a great show at Conrad Weiser High School, scoring 73.15 and earning a well-deserved first place. The team will be taking a break during the spring vacation, and their competitions will resume on April 6th.
Crew (Boys) – Dan Kaper-Barcelata
RBCC had a great start to the spring season last Sunday, with our Novice 8 placing 2nd, Lightweight 8 placing 2nd, and Varsity 8 placing third. These lineups will be refined over the course of the season, and you should definitely expect to see some heat at the next regatta with some new fours hitting the racing scene. During spring break, the team will be training hard at full day practices and will go on their annual bike ride into Philly to train on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. As Rocky Balboa, whose statue resides at the museum, once said, “Every champion was once a contender who refused to give up.”
Crew (Girls) – Addy Carter
The Radnor Girls Crew club is here to win this season. In an exceptional first Manny Flick on March 17, our Varsity 4’s placed 1st and 3rd, JV 8’s in 1st and 2nd, and our Freshmen 8 landed in 2nd. We must thank Isabella Szene, Maisie Wetzel, Lizzie Martin, Sara Feulner, and Hanna Lyons for leading our boats to success and keeping a sustainable pace for the rest of their team. With spring break training starting this upcoming Monday, the team is eager to bring the same energy and looks forward to the next four Flicks through the rest of March and April.
Lacrosse (Girls) – Tatum Brown
Spring sports are upon us, and the girls lacrosse team is off to a great start. On Monday, March 18, 2024, the girls started off their season with a 15-4 win against Kennett High School. The team is very strong this year, with great leadership among the captains: Grayson Buono, Sarah Kelley, Kate Gallagher, and Margot Johnson. All four girls are D1 lacrosse commits and very dedicated to the RGL program. They are looking forward to finishing off their astounding Radnor High School lacrosse careers with a memorable and successful season. The team has many great players and their chemistry on and off the field will be carrying them through this hopefully victorious season. The girls are athletic, energetic, and excited to watch so make sure to come out and cheer them on! Their upcoming games include Haverford on April 2 and Harriton on April 4 at home.
Softball – Audrey Rubenstein
After working hard over the winter, Radnor Softball was extremely excited to get their regular season started. They began practicing on March 4th and competed in two scrimmages against Chichester and Bishop Shanahan. We had promising outings with the help of a talented freshman class. The girls had their first regular season game against Mount Saint Joseph Academy, where they were tied up until the third, but Mount Saint Joseph unfortunately took the win after going on a few hitting streaks. The girls looked for redemption against Upper Merion on Monday, and were in the game up until the last inning. Abby Krasowski led the team with a triple and a double to help keep the team in it. RSB plays Phoenixville at home on Friday and is looking for a win!
Tennis (Boys) – Ben Brecher
After a few chilly and windy weeks of successful pre-season preparation, the Radnor Boys Tennis team is ready for the upcoming spring season. Led by senior captains Antonio Fidelibus, Arav Menon, and Graham Bernabeo, Radnor Boys Tennis hopes to return stronger than ever this year after a disappointing first round exit to Unionville in districts last spring. In the second week of preseason, the team competed in some scrimmages to help determine seeding for the season. The boys started on a high note, with a dominating 7-0 sweep of West Chester East, before defeating North Penn 6-1 later in the week. Radnor continued its dominance in the next week with a 6-1 win over Methacton and a commanding 7-0 win against Wissahickon to end the preseason. On Tuesday, the regular season started, and Radnor took care of business with a 5-2 away win against Haverford High School. Coming up, Radnor will face fellow Central League contender Harriton as well as nearby opponent Upper Dublin, before resting during spring break. With all ten courts finally open and the team in great shape, this season looks promising!
Track and Field (Boys) – Commerce Fisk
After an incredible end to the winter season marked by State Championship appearances by Junior Joseph Garzio, Senior Luke Bodden, and Senior Noah Wampole (who also appeared in the New Balance Nationals), the boys have officially begun the spring season. With high expectations of personal records and league domination, the team has once again populated the track at Prevost Field with high-flying speed workouts, baton passing, and threshold runs. Both the distance team, captained by Nate Halberstadt and Luke Bodden, and the sprint team, captained by Lionel Dunbar and Quinn Schultz, are hard at work in a variety of workouts, each one imitating conditions during races. The throwing and jumping units have been bolstered by the addition of many eager and talented individuals from both the sprinting and distance teams, as well as the many skilled returning members of the teams. There is an excited determination in the air as Coach Woolery, Coach Joe, and Coach Sydnor prepare the boys for an eventful spring season ahead. On Wednesday, the boys travel down 476 to Ridley High School to participate in the first Central League meet and first overall meet of the year before arriving at Upper Darby High School on Saturday for the highly-anticipated Upper Darby Invitational. We wish the boys the best of luck this season and we can’t wait to see all the exciting achievements to come.
Track and Field (Girls) – Kayla Cormier
The Radnor Girls Track & Field season has set out on a run—no pun intended. For the past two weeks, the team has been training in preparation for their first Central League meet on Wednesday, during which they will travel to Conestoga High School. Coach Flanagan and Coach Anderson are working with great ambition and vigor to prepare the girls for an exciting season. Track workouts, distance runs, pool days, and weight lifts are among the multitude of forms of conditioning, led by senior captains Zoe Margolies, Courtney Kearns, Julia Salinero, and Lidia Khellouf. RGTF’s freshmen class has added large numbers to the talented roster. The girls have already set high expectations for themselves, and levels of excitement are soaring on individual and team levels. Look out for the girls this season, who are eager to begin another incredible season. Don’t blink if you wish to see them running by!
Ultimate Frisbee (Boys) – Kavin Thapar
After sparse attendance during the winter off-season practices, RBUF is back in full swing. The season hit the ground running with high expectations spearheaded by captains Dustin Schrader and Antonio Westby. Last Wednesday, Radnor Ultimate started the season with a scrimmage in Philadelphia on Wednesday. The scrimmage was a hard fought match with an extremely close game of 10-9. Sadly, RBUF lost but is ready for their next match, the first Monday after spring break. Apart from matches, the team has been practicing vigorously from Mondays to Thursdays and are eager to get back to practice after break.
Ultimate Frisbee (Girls) – Anrui Xu
Powered by an exceptionally talented roster, the nationals-bound RGUF team is starting the spring season with sky-high ambitions! During a productive winter offseason spent in the school’s weight room, all three of the team’s senior captains (Sofia Dillon, Diana Huang, Rona Liu-Zhong) tried out for the U.S. Under-20 National Team. Diana Huang was selected for the Women’s team and will compete on the international stage at the World Junior Ultimate Championships in July. Over the weekend, Radnor kicked off its spring competition at the YULA Invite in Arlington, Virginia. The team traveled to one of the nation’s most prestigious high school tournaments with a total of only twelve players, having picked up Strath Haven junior Lilly Hodges and Abington sophomore Natalie Kovalenko to fill the roles of absent teammates. Despite being outnumbered, Radnor swept the other teams in its pool, defeating HB Woodlawn (10-6), Lexington (13-3), and Madison (13-2) on Saturday. On Sunday, the team emerged victorious against Columbia (11-3) before suffering a hard-fought semifinal loss to Alexandria City (7-9). Keeping their heads held high, RGUF came roaring back with an 11-3 victory against Jackson-Reed and proudly claimed third place among the tournament’s seventeen teams. Highlights from the weekend included freshman Graci Gill’s breakout scoring performance, layout goals from Sam Gasink and Mia Kripke, Olivia Cohen-Freue’s diving defensive block, and the creation of a gorgeous tournament Bingo board. The following Tuesday, the team received a major announcement- their outstanding performance throughout the fall season and YULA tournament had earned them an invitation to the High School National Invite! More good news was delivered on Thursday, when Ultiworld released its High School Girls Power Rankings and placed Radnor at the #9 spot nationwide. RGUF is ecstatic to make an unforgettable trip to Rockford, IL and compete among sixteen of the nation’s best teams in June. We will be following along with their historic season the entire way!
