Baseball – Daniel Kellis
With a few wins under their belt, RABA switched gears and started playing the 6A schools in the Central League. In a close game against Haverford, the Raptors were not able to pull the game out, even with Senior Andres Cruz and Sophomore Daniel Kellis having multiple hits. In response to the loss, RABA defeated Ridley 8-1, Garnet Valley 5-2, and Interboro 8-4. At Ridley, Junior pitcher Ryan McWilliams let up one earned run and Junior Zach Fein racked up three hits. Moving onto Garnet Valley, sophomore pitcher Austin Havertine took care of the Jaguars and allowed only two earned runs while Evan Hartman went 2-4 with the Raptors first homerun of the year. On a Friday night, the boys faced their rivals, the Lower Merion Aces, in a 3 hour and 40 minute game. In a hard-fought game, the Raptors came up short in extra innings, breaking the three-game winning streak. As the team progresses throughout the season, they gain more experiences and exposure to tough opponents, creating a strong-willed team come playoff time.
Color Guard – Sofiia Kuzmenko
Two weeks ago, the color guard delivered a performance at the Mid-Atlantic Indoor Network Championship—meaning the end of the season is right around the corner. There, they earned an impressive score of 79.33 and moved on to Chapters at TIA. That performance earned them third place and a score of 83.83 and set the guard up to compete in the championships for the TIA circuit this weekend.
Crew (Boys) – Dan Kaper-Barcelata
Last weekend at Manny Flick 5, the team placed fairly well, securing comfortable seeding for the City Championships that will take place this weekend. The novices competed in the time trial format, with the novice four placing 5th and the novice eight placing 10th. From our lightweight program, the lightweight double, stroked by Theo He, won first overall. The lightweight four also won first overall with an impressive improvement in time. Our three varsity fours placed 4th, 5th, and 6th in their respective heats. After seat racing our V4/JV4 lineups during practice last week, a new varsity A boat was put in place. This featured new members, including Matt Tyburski and Ian Sutherland from our JV crew and Colin Mucksavage and Jake Berkovich from our varsity crew. Expectations are high for this boat, but from what we’ve seen at practice and their incredible 1st place performance at the Piree Mug Regatta, they are sure to live up to the hype. Look out for this V4 and the lightweight program at City Championships—they’ve been putting up some notable results!
Crew (Girls) – Arielle Mims
On April 21st, Radnor Girls Crew raced in the last Manny Flick of the season. After a successful Saturday practice with many PRs on 2K times, RGCC dominated in their races. Varsity raced two fours, with the 4A placing third and the 4B placing first. The 4B consisted of rowers Sarah Feulner, Ava Rossi, Malaika Virk, Julia Handen, and coxswain Cassidy Mulligan. JV raced an eight and a four, placing third and 12th, respectively. The novice eight placed eighth and the freshman eight placed fourth. RGCC ultimately secured third place overall from all of the Manny Flicks combined. This upcoming weekend, the girls will compete in the City Championships, the second to last regatta of the season. The team is ready to bring our all for the last couple of weeks to close out with a successful end to a great season!
Lacrosse (Girls) – Tatum Brown
Radnor Girls Lacrosse continues to showcase their talent and skills on the field this season. With wins against Marple Newtown (15-5), Pennridge (18-6), and Garnet Valley (11-5), the girls are crushing it. On Saturday, April 27th, the girls faced their most difficult opponent yet–Archbishop Carroll. The Patriots consistently demonstrate a strong lacrosse team and guarantee a tough game; the girls were up for a challenge and didn’t let up on Carroll. They came out strong in the beginning of the first quarter, going up 3-0. Carroll continued to put Radnor under pressure, but Radnor’s defense didn’t allow them to break through. Senior goalie and Penn State commit Arden Jansen made some incredible saves to keep Radnor’s lead until the fourth quarter. In the last ten minutes, Carroll came back to make the score 10-10. The game went into overtime and, unfortunately, Carroll was able to secure the last goal. It was a very exciting game and Radnor fought tooth and nail until the end. On a brighter note, on Tuesday, April 30th, the team had the opportunity to celebrate their fourteen senior players and two team managers on senior night. The girls played against Upper Darby and won 14-0. Before the playoff journey begins, the team has three regular season games remaining. They play at Ridley on Thursday May 2nd and Cardinal O’Hara on Friday May 10th, both games starting at 3:45pm. Their final home game on Encke Field is against Conestoga High School on Tuesday May 7th at 7:00pm. This will surely be a great couple of games to watch, so make sure to come out and support the team!
Softball – Audrey Rubenstein
Radnor Girls Softball took on the most difficult part of their schedule and put up a good fight. They started the week against Conestoga High School and, despite a lightning delay, the girls brought the energy. RSB came up short, but it wasn’t an easy win for Conestoga. The girls played Haverford High School that same week on April 17th and were in the game up until the 5th inning. Abby Krasowski had numerous base hits to help the girls stay in the game, alongside Ashley Van Trieste’s clutch catches in left field. The following game was against Ridley, when the girls unfortunately were not able to take home the win. RSB played Garnet Valley on April 24th and had some big hits, with Abby Krasowski and Audrey Rubenstein both hitting doubles to score three runs. To round out the week, the girls had their senior night against Lower Merion High School. Not only were the girls able to get a win, but they mercied the Aces 17-7. RSB looked to continue their winning streak against Upper Darby this past Tuesday, and after a nine inning game, they were able to get the win. All nine innings were pitched by Abby Rasmussen, who has been RSB’s star in the circle. The girls are excited for the rest of their season and hope to continue their winning streak!
Tennis (Boys) – Ben Brecher
After the dominating non-league win against West Chester Rustin, Radnor Boys Tennis shifted their focus to a tough Garnet Valley team. The match was crucial for both teams, as a win would play a huge part in seeding districts. Ultimately, Radnor pulled through with a narrow 4-3 victory. The next day, the team returned home to face off against Conestoga, which was by far our hardest match yet. Unfortunately, the boys got swept 7-0, ending their 14-0 unbeaten streak. Putting that match in the past, RBT looked to bounce back against an easier opponent. Radnor faced Ridley High School on Thursday, April 25th, and eventually won 7-0. League play was then put on pause, as Radnor wished Antonio Fidelibus, Graham Bernabeo, Max Spillerman, and William Shi good luck at the Central Athletic League Doubles Tournament. Congratulations to Antonio and Graham for advancing to the District Doubles tournament! Antonio and Graham will be competing in the District Doubles tournament on the weekend of 5/10 and Radnor Boys Tennis can’t wait to cheer them on!
Track and Field (Boys) – Commerce Fisk
As the Radnor Boys Track and Field team’s successful season continues into the blistering heat of May, competition has reached its highest stages. Late April brought on a plethora of exciting meets and invitationals for the team, beginning with the final Central League meet at Harriton High School on April 17th. Senior Captain Lionel Dunbar finished top four in both the 100m and 200m, as well as leading the Varsity 4×1 to a first place finish with a time of 44.12. Junior Joseph Garzio set an unbelievable PR of 1:55.85, earning him second place in the 800m, and Rowan University commit Noah Wampole earned first place in the high jump, reaching 6”3 on the warm day. The boys traveled to Malvern for the Great Valley Invitational for the first truly warm meet of the year on Saturday the 20th, where scores of Radnor athletes placed and set outstanding PR’s. Freshman Alexander McKenzie earned third place in the meet for the novice 200m with a time of 25.64. Joseph Garzio nearly tied his PR in the 800m in a fast heat of runners, earning second place in the meet, and junior excellence continued with Owen Lim running 16.70 in the 110m hurdles, earning him second place as well. On Tuesday the 23rd, the team was proud to host their first meet at Radnor since the $29.7 million athletic facility renovations that began in 2020. The boys demonstrated their pride through many superb achievements: Juniors John Anfuso and Domenic Roselli earned first and second place in the javelin, with throws of 33.17m and 32.64m respectively. Freshmen Noah Engstrom and Junior Owen Lim achieved feats in the 200m, running 23.74 and 23.97 respectively. The boys celebrated their senior night that night as well, an amazing commemoration of all the achievements of the team’s many passionate and dedicated seniors. Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th saw both the district-qualified 4x100m team and the 4x400m team travel to University City for the world-renowned Penn Relays. On Friday, the 4x100m team, consisting of Lionel Dunbar, Luca Jones, Quinn Schultz, and Zeph Yisrael, competed against prominent local teams, finishing with a time of 44.16. A day later, the 4x400m team (Erik Mortensen, Joseph Grazio, Quinn Schultz, and Otsyr Yisrael) made their way onto Franklin Field against high-level competitors in the area, running an impressive time of 3:31.75. Meanwhile on Saturday, the rest of the team were at the Unionville Invitational at West Chester University, where the boys continued their streak, including Senior Noah Wampole’s first place finish with a jump of 6”4. At last, the boys face the most exciting, yet demanding part of the season, marked by the Delco and Central League Championships. On Wednesday, May 1st, the team will travel to the Rap Curry Athletic Complex to compete in the Delco Championship trials, where eager runners and field athletes alike will look to make their marks—what remains is only hard work and determination, qualities this team never fails to exhibit.
Track and Field (Girls) – Kayla Cormier
It’s the last day of April, and this month’s showers have slowly begun to transition to sunshine and warmer temperatures. As expected, RGTF is continuing their domination of the outdoor season, meet after meet. On April 17th, the girls hosted their final Central League meet on our home track. This marked the first home meet in over five years, during which freshman Katelyn Anderson ran a district time for the 2 mile (11:18.73). Additionally, the 4x800m relay easily won their event. After the conclusion of yet another successful meet, RGTF honored their five amazing seniors: Julia Salinero, Sophia Hill, Lidia Khellouf, Zoe Margolies, and Courtney Kearns. A special thank you to Margarita for taking some amazing pictures of the celebration! A few days later, on April 20th, RGTF traveled to Great Valley High School, during which the 4x800m relay won and ran a PR (9:39.97). Isabella Flores took silver in the Novice 1600m, and Emma ran an impressive PR in the 3200m (11:40.43). Thursday, April 25th began with an early wake-up for the girls, who traveled to UPenn’s Franklin Field to run in the historic Penn Relays. All three relays performed excellently, and RGTF enjoyed the day off of school. Most recently, on April 27th, Radnor Girls Track & Field competed at the Unionville Invitational. Despite Saturday’s rainy conditions, the girls pulled through with outstanding performances all around. Tune in on Thursday to watch our girls bring the house down at Delco Champs Trials, at Upper Darby High School. As always, Go RGTF!
Ultimate Frisbee (Boys) – Kavin Thapar
With several games at the tournament, a game against our rival LM and another against Plymouth Whitemarsh, Radnor Boys Ultimate Frisbee has had a busy but enjoyable two weeks. Starting off with the game against Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday, Radnor won a close game 11-10 on universe point. At the next game against LM, Radnor sadly lost 11-15 but is ready to beat them next year. The boys also went to a two-day tournament on Saturday and Sunday. Ultimate Frisbee (Girls) – Anrui Xu
Ranked #7 nationwide, RGUF is winning games and having tons of fun along the way! Two days after a windy loss to Strath Haven in the Radnor Invite Finals, the team bounced back with a triumphant 10-7 weekday rematch victory. Freshman rookie Ysa Sanchez scored her first goal while effortlessly skying opponents. The game concluded with a bonus point played between Radnor’s five seniors and a full line of seven Strath Haven players. Despite being outnumbered, the seniors won the unconventional point on a goal thrown by Sofia Dillon to Rona Liu-Zhong. RGUF took to their home field again for a match against Lower Merion, winning 8-5 thanks to a block, assist, and two goals from junior Maya Kaneda. Radnor dedicated some time to fundraise for nationals, setting up at Flockfest and a Surge game while hosting a clinic to support a new generation of ultimate players. On Saturday, the team celebrated captain Rona Liu-Zhong’s birthday and played in the local HipHop tournament, rolling through Masterman (11-0) and Science Leadership Academy (9-4) in pool play. The team’s juniors dominated the field before Mia Kripke, Olivia Cohen-Freue, Rebecca Goldberg, and Nayra Garcia combined for three assists, six blocks, and thirteen goals. RGUF entered their third game against Haverford following the early departure of the juniors and an addition of a few new players. Radnor pushed through long, draining points with limited substitutions, aware that they would be forfeiting their final game (default 0-13) against Springfield due to scheduling conflicts with their Surge fundraiser. The team’s relentless drive was rewarded with a 7-4 victory. Although HipHop technically ended in a third place finish, as the three-way tie between Radnor, Haverford, and Springfield was broken through point differentials, RGUF had plenty to be proud of. Sophomore Annika Dillon put up a terrific performance, earning thirteen blocks while scoring two goals and eleven assists. The team’s roster depth and persistence have been tested and proven by the tournament, and they are sure to find further success as the season continues!
