February has brought only more snowy weather, and with it, a few blessed virtual days and two-hour delays. With a hopeful long weekend on the horizon, many RHS winter teams are dipping their toes into the excitement of postseason games and meets. Read Edition #8’s coverage of Radnor’s recent triumphs, staying right on theme with a recent Eagles victory.

Basketball (Boys) – Ellis Margolies
The Raptors constantly showed great attitude and never gave up during their season. Unfortunately, though, the boys were not able to finish their year the way they wanted and didn’t qualify for the district playoffs. Despite their record, this team was really special, and we thank the seniors who led the team and gave it their all, serving as role models for the younger players. Looking forward, next year’s team has exciting potential; a lot of juniors are going to step up to hopefully lead Radnor to a winning record and a deep playoff run. RBB’s team chemistry will only become stronger during the off season. One sure thing about Radnor Boys Basketball is that the players all work very hard, so we are certain that the Raptors will be a tough force to be reckoned with next year. Thank you RBB!
Basketball (Girls) – Ava Preate and Bree Simpson
Radnor Girls Basketball closed out their regular season with an exciting few games and are now heading to districts! During the Strath Haven game on the 30th, the Raptors won by an astounding 18 points. This was thanks to everyone on the team working together to chip in points, with Nyah Yao, Anna Reger, and Bree Simpson all scoring double digits! Soon after, Radnor took on Springfield, which resulted in an unfortunate loss. Despite Springfield face-guarding Nyah Yao, she was able to score a game-high 13 points. After the unlucky loss to Springfield, Radnor bounced back and played with fire and passion against Penncrest in their last game of the regular season. This intensity was fueled by the desire to win on RGB’s Senior Night, held to honor the one and only Riley d’Entremont. Later, the Raptor’s played Lower Merion for the second time in the first round of Central League playoffs. The game was close up until the fourth quarter, when Lower Merion took a sudden lead. Unfortunately, Radnor dropped Lower Merion by nine points. Although the girls were knocked out of the Central League playoffs, the future is bright as RGB gears up to play their first game of Districts on February 18. Good luck girls!
Cheerleading – Abby Merschel
This past week has been nothing but bittersweet for the ladies of Radnor Cheerleading. After a HUGE HIT during our last performance in Pennsylvania, we were ready to compete at the most prestigious competition in the country, UCA Nationals. We arrived on Thursday in high spirits and ready to get to work. After what felt like hours of long Florida heat practices on Friday and Saturday morning, we were prepared to take the mat. The feeling backstage is surreal, especially when surrounded by your best friends! The girls left the nationals mat with one of our better routines we’ve put out all season, and while we did not receive the results we had hoped and trained for, the team is ready to come back 10x stronger next year. To our seniors: Gabby, Gracie, Ana, and Stevie, you have all been nothing short of exceptional, and this team could not have done it without you. We love you so dearly and wish you the best of luck in the future!
Ice Hockey (Boys) – Hayden Goldenberg
Radnor Boys Ice Hockey has faced a challenging end to their season, losing their last three matches. However, with some familiar opponents coming up, the team prepares to steal the last two games of the year. It has certainly been a struggle missing junior captain Stephen Sucher, but the boys look to come together and break the losing streak to finish the season strong. With some late season wins, RAHO could better their position in the playoffs and get the momentum they have been searching for. Go RAHO, and Go Radnor!
Ice Hockey (Girls) – Gabriella Eun
Unfortunately, much to everyone’s dismay, the Radnor Girls Ice Hockey season is rapidly coming to an end. Despite this, the girls still power through and give their last remaining games their all. A few days ago on February 10, the team hosted their Senior night against Pennridge, leading to a nail-biting win with a close score of 9-8, bringing their current record to 7-8. On February 12, the girls’ scheduled game against rivals LM was sadly cancelled due the unpredicted snowfall. With one last shot to bring their record to an even 8-8, the girls are excited to play in their up-and-coming last game against Conestoga on February 21 (at Ice Line Rink #3). Let’s go Raptors!
Indoor Track (Boys) – Commerce Fisk
The Indoor Track season is firmly within the competitive month of February, and with the exciting rise in action, Radnor has established itself as a force to be reckoned with on the regional and state level. On February 2, the team found themselves back at the brand-new Ott Center for the 9th TFCAGP Meet. Radnor’s burgeoning DMR squad (Jack Wible, Aiden Landau, Owen Bradwell, Joseph Garzio) took 8th place with an outstanding 11:06.51 run. In the 1 mile, Sophomore Connor Walsh ran a fantastic PR of 4:53.28. To close out the meet, Radnor’s renowned 4x400m team, comprised of Noah Engstrom, Zeph Yisrael, Erik Mortenson, and Joseph Garzio, finished 1st overall (3:25.57) in a stacked field, earning the #11 spot in the state and a bid to the state championship. On February 7, much of the team traveled to Lehigh University for the TFCAGP last-chance meet. The team produced yet another fantastic relay result in the 4x200m, (Noah Engstrom, Joseph Garzio, Erik Mortensen, Zeph Yisrael) running a 1:36.63, earning them 5th place and a bid to the Meet of Champs. Senior Erik Mortensen himself ran an impressive 23.97 in the open 200m, too. Senior Brandon Ngyuen had yet another great day at the Pole Vault, propelling 11-06.00. A day later, the boys were back at Lehigh University for the Indoor Track Carnival. Once again, Radnor’s DMR team (Wible, Zeph Yisrael, Bradwell, Garzio) had a great showing, earning 3rd in the meet with a time of 11:08.97. Senior Owen Lim returned to his Long Jump prowess, surpassing 21-3.75. Nguyen performed very well over at the Pole Vault, achieving a 12-0 PR. Earlier in the meet, Senior Wayne Fontaine ran a great 400m with a time of 56.03. Looking forward, on February 15, the Ott Center will host the Meet of Champs, during which several of Radnor’s finest will compete amongst one of the toughest (if not the toughest) districts in the entire state of Pennsylvania. Go Radnor!
Indoor Track (Girls) – Grace Kimlinger
As the indoor track season is beginning to come to a close, RGTF is still working hard and making huge gains on the track! Recently, there have been fewer meets as we enter championship season, so our athletes have had more time to work towards improvement at practice. At the 10th Annual Ocean Breeze Invitational in Staten Island on 2/1, Natalie Merriam (So.) soared to 7th place, with a magnificent top jump of 9ft 6in! The same day, a smaller group of runners competed at the Penn Relays Winter Showcase at the new Ott Center in Philly. Here, Kayla Cormier (Jr.) ran a fantastic time of 2:27:04 in the 800m, earning her 14th place in a very competitive field. Radnor also had a great showing in the mile, where Katelyn Anderson (So.), Coco Conner (Fr.), and Emma Hyde (Sr.) all placed within the top 15 and all ran under 5:30! A week later, the girls traveled to Lehigh University for the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival. Bringing a 4x800m, 4x400m, and distance medley relay, RGTF was ready to work! The 4x800m relay, consisting of Anderson, Cormier, Conner, and Mia Richter (Jr.), raced an astounding time of 9:59:11 and brought home a bronze medal. Later, the same group ran a blazing DMR of 13:20:41 and placed 4th! As the winter season comes to a close, RGTF looks forward to a few more meets and a fun-filled banquet on February 20. Make sure to watch out for more updates, as spring track begins in a few weeks!
Squash (Boys) – Harsh Kakkar and Kavin Thapar
Radnor Boys Squash has been putting in intense training sessions in preparation for the 2025 Nationals, which takes place on February 21-23. With dedicated practices and a strong team spirit, the squad is feeling confident. The energy during training has been incredible, and the team is excited to showcase their progress and compete at the highest level. A special shoutout to our captains for leading the charge! LET’S GO RADNOR!
Squash (Girls) – Ella Starzyk
The Radnor Girls Squash team is training harder and looking better than ever after a recent loss against the Shipley School, with an upcoming match on Thursday, February 13. These weeks leading up to Squash Nationals 2025 (February 21-23) are intense training days filled with lots of challenging drills and competitive matches. The team is in high spirits, since the girls just celebrated Senior Night with fun games, treats, and lots of pictures from parents! Congratulations to seniors Rhea Howard, Bella Flick, Julia Sareen, and Juana Gallino, and thank you for leading this team to victory! We wish the girls the best of luck in their upcoming matches. Go RGS!
Swimming (Boys) – Mohammed Badri
Radnor Boys Swim has officially entered championship season, and every swimmer in the pool is working on their times with hopes of placing on a podium. At Silver Champs, Jose Salinero and Nick Roeltgen each managed to place in the top three, wrapping up a strong week for the team during which swimmers gained experience racing in a championship environment. The freshmen saw what it was like to compete in a different space, and Coach Jeremy Byrne began his preparations for Central League Championships. There were a bunch of great individual performances, including Ethan Chang’s 8th place in the 100 free, Nick Clegg’s 5th place in the 500 free, and Will Ledbetter’s 6th place in the 100 backstroke. Relays for the 400 free finished 8th and 12th. Luca Jones finished 12th in the 100 free, Logan Bernabeo finished 14th in the 100 back, and Charlie Collett finished 13th in the 500 free. Most importantly, however, Alex Yu finished 1st in the 100 breaststroke, taking the meet by storm. On February 13, Radnor will be competing in the District Champs meet, where we hope to see more great results and improvements on time.
Swimming (Girls) – Sophie Masicoli
With the regular season over (technically) undefeated, we went into our championship meets ready to crush it. First up was Silver Championships, during which sophomore Sophia Kong broke a meet record in the 100 breaststroke! Additionally, freshman Hunter Pugh placed first in diving. The next week, we took on the Central League Championships. Throughout the season, both swimmers and divers have worked hard to qualify for this meet, and it was full of great events. During this 11 dive meet, sophomore Orla Dill qualified for Districts to extend her amazing season even further. In swimming, junior Alice Lake won the 100 backstroke with a Radnor record-breaking time! Overall, our team placed third in the Central League. Congrats to everyone who finished out their season with one of these great championship meets.
Now, swimmers that have made District consideration continue to work hard at practice towards the Last Chance meet to get some qualifying times. After that comes Districts (finally)! Our swimmers have prepared all season to take on this elite championship, and we are ready. Bring it on!
