We really have been through it all together this year, huh?
- On fields, courses, tracks, courts, ice, and in pools
- Through falling leaves and snowflakes and blooming flowers
- In the face of snow days and AP exams and an Eagles SB victory
Weather, news, injuries, teams, games – they all come and go; but, the memories created by each of Radnor’s athletes and journalists will live on cherished. One busy year, three sports seasons, and sixteen editions later, the 24-25 Radnor Sports Roundup bids its final farewell to our loyal readers. I know, I know – it’s okay to cry.
Thank you for trusting me with the position as Sports Roundup Editor. I hope that I, along with the Sports Editorial Board’s many members, have brought the scores, times, and achievements of Radnor athletics to life. Until next year!
Enjoy the sunshine.
XOXO, Kayla
Baseball – Blake Fein and Hayden Goldenberg
Since we last left off, your Radnor Boys Baseball Team is the District 1 Champion! Austin Havertine took the hill for the Raptors in the District Final and was absolutely lights out, pitching a complete 7-inning one-run game and earning the win to make him Radnor’s all time wins leader – as just a junior. On the offensive side of things, the Raptors scraped across a run in the 6th inning after Joe Krasowski came into score on a Kyle Miltenberger drop third strike that leveled the game at 1 all. Just after, in the bottom of the 7th, Will Selbach got on with a leadoff walk and stole second right before Radnor’s biggest swing of the season. Senior captain Teddy Monahan came through with a double over the right fielders head and was mobbed around second base after delivering the walk off rbi to make Radnor District Champions for just the second time in school history. This earned Radnor a first round state matchup at home versus Elizabethtown. While both sides flashed dominant pitching, ultimately Radnor got bested and the historic season for the Raptors came to a bittersweet close. This was the best season in school history, seeing that the Raptors won both a Central League and District title in the same year, a feat that had never been accomplished by the baseball team before. Radnor looks forward to a push towards a state title next year, as they will return top two pitchers Austin Havertine and Daniel Kellis.
Crew (Boys) – Arnav Sadashiv
Radnor Boys Crew Club has had a dearly memorable year. To start, the fall season saw huge growth for the team. We welcomed a batch of energetic freshmen that would form the largest novice group our team has had for many years. As the novices built skills on the water to prepare for their first races, the seasoned JV and Varsity guys brought the hammer down to form the most competitive boats that would later race in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta at Boston as well as our local Head of the Schuylkill and the nearby Braxton/Frostbite Regattas. The HoCR Regatta in particular will be a cherished memory of mine. All of the seniors were together in a V8+, and although the race itself was certainly one of the most challenging yet, the whole weekend from start to finish was simply irreplaceable.
The winter season saw senior captains Matthew Tyburski and Ian Sutherland leading the newly formulated conditioning program for the team in preparation for the intensity and high stakes of spring season rowing. The oarsmen took to the gym, spending strenuous hours moving weights, erging, and following specific, measured training plans to maximize every individual’s progress.
Spring season, as always, was when each rower learned to push himself beyond what he was capable of before. For Ian Sutherland, this meant breaking his own pre-existing school record time on the 2000m rowing ergometer not just once, but twice, now holding the smashing time of 6:09.3 minutes. As spring racing progressed through the 5-week Flick/Horvat regatta series and the conclusive City Championships, Midatlantics, and Stotesbury regattas, Radnor Boys Crew encountered many challenges. However, the boys faced each obstacle with newfound strength and success. To put it plainly: RBCC has been as resilient as the dust-filled, corrugated-metal-and-brick boathouse that was our home every afternoon for the past several decades, and the team will continue to be unshakeable.
Crew (Girls) – Caroline Croke
Over Memorial Day weekend, our crew team wrapped up a successful spring season with a strong showing at our final regatta. Despite tough competition and challenging conditions, all three boats gave it their all. The freshman 8+ had an impressive race, placing 5th overall. For many of the rowers, it was their first full season on the water, and their performance showed just how far they’ve come in such a short time. Their determination and focus set the tone for the rest of the team. The first Varsity 8+ also finished in 5th place, fighting hard all the way down the course. With powerful strokes and strong teamwork, they held their own in a competitive field and demonstrated the strength and experience that comes with senior leadership. The 2nd Varsity 8+ came in 6th, pushing through a tough lineup with grit and resilience. While the placement wasn’t what they’d hoped for, their commitment to improvement all season long was clear in their every stroke. As the season ends, our rowers can be proud of their progress, sportsmanship, and the bond they’ve built as a team on and off the water.
Lacrosse (Boys) – Brendan Cox
Radnor High School Boys’ Lacrosse entered the 2025 season with high expectations, aiming for a fifth consecutive PIAA Class 3A State Championship after securing titles from 2021 through 2024. The boys’ 2024 victory was particularly historic, marking an unprecedented four-peat in Pennsylvania’s high school lacrosse history. Throughout this year, the Raptors showcased their dominance, boasting a 17-4 overall record, outscoring opponents 227 to 95. Notable victories included commanding wins over Conestoga (10-2), La Salle College (11-3), and Ridley (14-5). They also secured a narrow 7-6 win against Springfield-Delco during the regular season. Unfortunately, the postseason presented challenges. In the District 1 Class 3A Championship game on May 29, Radnor faced Springfield-Delco once more, but fell short with a 10-3 hard-fought loss. Despite this setback, the Raptors advanced to the State Tournament, where they clinched a victory over Wilson in the first round on June 3.
Tennis (Boys) – Max Spillerman
Although the Radnor Boys Tennis regular season had come to an end a few weeks ago, both Max Spillerman and Carter Mcelwain extended their season by competing in Districts. The pair earned the fifth seed and thus punched their ticket to States. Unfortunately, at States, the boys sadly fell to the soon-to-be state champions from Hempfield in the first round. While they did not finish where they wanted to, Radnor Boys Tennis had a very impressive season, performing better than any team has since 2019. Congratulations to all the graduating seniors, and we look forward to getting after it again next season!
Track & Field (Boys) – Commerce Fisk
The Radnor Boys Outdoor Track and Field season has come to a close, but the achievements and memories will certainly not cease with this successful and exciting 2025 season. The home stretch of the season was marked by the PIAA State Championships at Shippensburg University, where several of our athletes competed at the highest level in Pennsylvania. To start off the weekend, Senior Captain Joseph Garzio looked to further his dominant 1600m performance in District 1. In yet another Radnor High School record, Garzio finished 5th in the state, running a stunning time of 4:11.37. Later, Senior Mason Shieh delivered yet another fantastic 110m hurdle performance, finishing 14th in the state with a swift 14.80. Shieh also ran in the 300m hurdles, finishing 21st in a tremendous 40.54. Also on Thursday, the talented 4x400m team, composed of Zeph Yisrael, Noah Engstrom, Erik Mortensen, and Joseph Garzio, had a great performance with a very respectable 3:22.59 finish. The following day, Garzio had his sights set on the 800m, where another talented field awaited him. The District 1 Champion ran a stellar race, finishing 3rd in the state with a blistering time of 1:52.16. Finally, on Friday, Radnor’s premier jumper Senior Owen Lim impressed with a 16th place finish in the state with a sensational 21-3 leap. After the dust settled from an exciting and successful weekend, some of the boys traveled down to West Chester Henderson High School for the John Hay Distance Festival to run one last race for the track season. Garzio continued his electrifying 800m High School tenure with a stupendous 1:52.02 finish. Junior Jack Wible furthered his mile excellence with a 4:37.79 finish. Sophomore Alexander Bradely continued to inch closer to his sub-5 minute goal with a huge 5:02.74 time. Under the lights, Sophomore Connor Walsh dominated his heat in the 5k, running a blazing 16:15.53 time. Congrats to all our athletes on a successful and rewarding season and good luck to all Radnor Track graduating seniors. Go Radnor!
Track & Field (Girls) – Grace Kimlinger
Over the past few weeks, RGTF has wrapped up a fantastic season! On May 24, Katelyn Anderson placed 29th in the 3200m at the PIAA State Championships, running an impressive 11:15.39. Additionally, a smaller group of athletes competed in the mile at the John Hay Distance Festival at West Chester Henderson High School. Special congrats to Grace Kimlinger and Kayla Cormier for both running big PRs, with Kayla running the mile for the first time ever! Our athletes are now looking forward to a fun-filled summer and cannot wait to return for cross country in the fall!
Ultimate Frisbee (Boys) – Ben Rickmond and Kavin Thapar
The Radnor Boys Ultimate Frisbee season ended on May 11 at the PHUEL City Championships, during which our developing team was able to gain some much needed reps and practice against competition that included some of the nation’s best. This Monday, June 2, the team attended our annual banquet, where we recognized seniors (Summet Bhatia, Benji Lo and Jackson Poloha) and gave out awards. RUF now has their sights set on next season, where improvement is on the horizon.
Ultimate Frisbee (Girls) – Anrui Xu
Over the Memorial Day weekend, RGUF played their hearts out in the State Championship tournament! Adorned with oversized blue ribbons and streaks of pink eye black, the team faced Pennsbury, Masterman, Wissahickon, Strath Haven, Haverford, and Abington Friends. Junior Annika Dillon, previously sidelined with injury, made a stunning return as she effortlessly recorded interception after interception in the deep space and scored countless points on offense. Senior Maya Kaneda made an impression in her final tournament, advancing the disc as a wing and shutting down opposing handlers in a 6-3 win over Masterman. On Sunday, Radnor faced Abington for the third time this spring and emerged victorious to complete its season sweep of AFS. The game was chaotic, as points lasted upwards of thirty minutes, and a strong breeze altered defensive plans. Radnor’s strong cup relentlessly forced throws against the wind and into the trees. On the other side of the disc, freshman Claire Yuan and junior Rose Anderson stepped up on offense as RGUF’s vertical stack found its rhythm.
Beyond on-field play, there was plenty of joy and spirit throughout the weekend, as numerous dramatic photos were taken of the Blahaj (shark plush), and a four leaf clover was found on the field. The fun continued on Tuesday as Radnor joined up with Lower Merion to hold a hilarious combined Senior Night scrimmage. RGUF presented its five seniors–Olivia Cohen Freue, Nayra Garcia, Mia Kripke, Rebecca Goldberg, and Maya Kaneda–with beautiful posters decorated with stickers, photos, and the drawings by artists such as Claire Yuan and junior Mira Caplan. The seniors vs. non-seniors match was a ridiculous, light-hearted showcase of both triumphs and failures, as players from both schools giggled their way through a game filled with illegal five-person cup schemes, reckless hucks, and even a point played by “dinosaur arm rules,” with elbows required to remain attached to their sides. The scrimmage concluded in spectacular fashion with a 14 vs. 14 universe point, featuring double the typical amount of players on the field, and a spontaneous backflip from Mia Kripke. As high school girls’ teams around the area prepare to graduate one of the strongest overall senior classes in recent memory, the Pennsylvania state title appears to be anyone’s game next year. Radnor is very optimistic about building their program, especially as middle school players are preparing to enter the high school team in the coming years. The future of RGUF looks bright!
