As Halloween draws near and the excitement of LM week ramps up, many students playing fall sports prepare to battle against some of the more competitive teams in the area for playoffs. Others have concluded their autumn athletics with a banquet—an especially sentimental farewell for seniors. With that being said, the Sports Roundup is here to deliver coverage on the Raptors’ fall sports events.

Cheerleading – Trinity Emery
As the cheerleading season is ramping up, the girls are busy preparing for the Northeast Regional Competition, starting November 18th. Keep an eye out for the cheerleaders performing new skills and tricks at Friday’s senior night game against Springfield High School, which is the second to last game of the season. Make sure to show your Radnor spirit and join the Ruckus to cheer on football with the cheerleaders!
Crew (Boys) – Daniel Kaper
RBCC has finally made it back from their trip to Boston for the Head of the Charles Regatta. This year, the conditions were some of the toughest we’ve seen for the race, with high winds and low currents. Our boats powered through against some tough international competition, with the V4 placing 54th/90 and the V8 placing 65th/90. Though these lineups were relatively new, they have displayed a remarkable ability to blend together as boats and are definitely looking to keep up the progress. This past Tuesday, the team had another 5K erg test–shoutout Isaac Denham for ripping a 35-second personal record like it was nothing. In other news, you can expect to see RBCC put out some puddles at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta this weekend.
Crew (Girls) – Arielle Mims and Caitlin Roeltgen
Over the weekend of October 15, RGCC competed in the Navy Day Regatta, which took place on the team’s home course on the Schuylkill River. It was a great day out on the water and both varsity and novice alike had the opportunity to race. The team raced two varsity eights, one varsity four, and two JV eights. The two V8s placed 5th and 17th out of 23 boats, respectively. The V4 placed 13th out of 28, and the JV8s placed 10th and 12th out of 13. The following weekend, RGCC traveled to Boston for their biggest race of the season: the Head of the Charles Regatta. HOCR is an incredibly competitive regatta, with over 11,000 participants from around the world. RGCC took up two boats, one varsity four and one varsity eight. The girls drove up on Thursday and took a practice loop of the course on Friday before their big race on Sunday. The weather conditions of high winds were not ideal, but they were prepared and pushed through. The V4 claimed 65th out of 90 and the V8 took 44th out of 90, making the V8 the only Radnor boat to qualify for next year’s HOCR. Go RGCC!
Cross Country (Boys) – Niva Menon

Field Hockey – Cailin Kelly
After a close 3-2 win in overtime against Agnes Irwin and a Conestoga loss, the girls have made it to Districts! As of Wednesday, they are one game in, which was a 4-0 shutout against Phoenixville on our very own Encke field. Senior Annabelle Parente was able to secure the first goal, giving the team a good start. D1 commit Alex Decain had a perfect corner goal along with another junior, Lily Wolfington, putting one in the net. Our senior goalie, Ashley Vantrieste, was able to deflect every shot from Phoenixville. Great job RGFH!
Football – Arielle Mims
Lately, the Radnor Football team has been playing hard in the last few games before the matchup against Lower Merion. In a close game against Penncrest on the 13th, the team put up a tough fight, but ultimately lost 26-34. The fourth quarter was filled with many consecutive touchdowns from both teams, which kept the spectators on their toes until the end of the game. Although the outcome wasn’t what the team had hoped for, they should still be proud of scoring 20 points in one quarter. Last week, the team fell short against Ridley (49-13), but they played well together overall. This Friday, the Radnor Football team has their Senior Night game vs. Springfield. We wish them the best of luck in the last game before LM!
Soccer (Boys) – Margarita Moreland
Recently, the Radnor Boys Soccer team has had only one thing on their minds: victory. On Thursday, October 12th, the boys traveled to Ridley High School and secured a 3-0 win. That following Saturday, the team battled it out against Downingtown West and ultimately scored two goals over DWest’s zero. The long-anticipated matchup against Conestoga, a highly recognized team in the area, came on Tuesday, October 17. Both teams proved their abilities to protect the goal, with junior goalie Jake Barber achieving some impressive saves. Seniors Jack Ennis and Aidan Damiani gave it their all on the field and did not disappoint and the game concluded in a 0-0 tie. For the District 1 Class 3A Playoff Quarterfinal vs. West Chester East, the Raptors shut out the Vikings (5-0). Junior striker Andrew Marino put two in the net, while the other goals were scored by Blake Steel and Roman Rivera. Looking ahead, the boys will play against Lower Moreland in the Semifinal on Monday at 7:00pm on Encke Field. Be there.
Soccer (Girls) – Kayla Cormier
The past two weeks marked the conclusion of the regular season for Radnor Girls Soccer. During the week of October 16, RGS suffered two well-played losses to West Chester Rustin (1-0) and Downingtown West (2-0). Intermediately, on Thursday, October 19th, RGS celebrated their seniors and beat Ridley 2-0 on Encke. Last week, the girls wrapped up their regular season with an unfortunate but hard-fought overtime loss at Conestoga on Tuesday, and a scoreless tie against Villa Maria on Thursday. Nevertheless, RGS’s overall successful season (10-5-3) secured the third seed spot in the District 1 AAA playoffs, enabling a bye for Tuesday’s first round. Radnor plays #6 seed Bishop Shanahan on Thursday, October 26th under the lights on Enke in their second-round game. The tough past two weeks have provided all the more incentive for the girls to continue their work in this year’s playoffs. Go RGS!
Tennis (Girls) – Natalie Tyburski and Rebecca Goldberg
In early October, the Radnor Girls Tennis team began District playoffs fighting to earn a spot in the States competition. The playoffs lasted two consecutive days–seven girls played for Radnor, including three singles and two doubles teams. Five seniors qualified to play, but due to illness, only three of the seniors could participate, so underclassmen subbed in for them. RGT playoff players included Leina Ciarrocchi, Sophie Carter, Emma Fox, Grace Gordon, Rebecca Goldberg, and Amelia Hilbert, with subs Samantha Takefman and Anika Fernandez. Second doubles player junior Amelia Hilbert expressed, “I felt excited and motivated. We had a particularly good team this year. There were some tears shed at the closing of playoffs because it was the last match for many of our seniors present.” Ultimately, the team was disappointed not to make it to States, since a few matches were lost in painfully close tie breakers, but this year’s season was incredibly strong with a 10-1 winning streak in Central League. Coach Beth Bernabeo said, “Our team promotes player versatility and depth. These attributes helped RGT secure a fourth seed in playoffs, and while we narrowly missed going to states, I could not be prouder of the girls’ commitment to learning new tactics, on court confidence, resilience and overall performance throughout the season- particularly in districts under challenging conditions.”
Volleyball – Hailey Gasink and Kirthi Midde
Radnor Girls Volleyball’s successful season has now come to a close. In their last two weeks of the 2023 season, the varsity girls secured wins over Interboro (3-0), Upper Darby (3-0), and Sacred Heart Academy (3-0). On Monday, October 16th, the girls recognized the seniors on Senior Night, with the Freshmen and Varsity teams taking the win against Upper Darby. RGV’s freshmen team started strong, but Upper Darby did not come to mess around. Beginning in the first set, at a tie of 7-7, the girls were forced to up their game. Showing how strong they are, the team was able to keep their spirits up, ending with a win of 2-0. This final game for the freshmen team was a true testament to how talented they are and the incredible mentality demonstrated on the court. Shortly after, varsity captains Sam Gasink and Audrey Kuhn, along with other seniors Caroline Monahan and Yleina Sanchez, were recognized and played an amazing game. After ending the regular season with a 13-5 record, varsity moved on to the District 1 3A playoffs. The Raptors took on Mount Saint Joseph Academy in the first round of playoffs this past Tuesday, October 24th. The girls put up a fight, but ultimately lost, ending with a score of 2-3. All-around outside hitter Sam Gasink led the team with numerous kills and impressive digs. Alongside her was freshman Kayla Tilghman, also challenging Mount’s defense with her powerful and skillful hitting. Following the loss, Sam Gasink speaks on what made her final season at RGV so special: “We have so much talent on this team, and our team chemistry is unmatched. I’m so proud of every single girl on this team, and I can’t believe how far we’ve come.” It’s safe to say all of the girls who have been a part of the RGV teams this year have had a season to remember. To conclude the season, girls from the Freshmen, JV, and Varsity teams will gather to celebrate their accomplishments and hard work at the end-of-season banquet on Wednesday.
Ultimate Frisbee (Boys) – Kethan Kalra
On the weekend of October 15, Radnor Boys Ultimate Frisbee competed in Atlantic City against several college teams ranging from D1 to D3. The team had a strong showing on Saturday, going 3-1 in pool play and securing the third seed. The following day, Radnor opened with an early morning game against Rutgers, the sixth seed, which they soundly beat. This win propelled them to the semi-finals, where they avenged Saturday’s loss in a thriller, sending them to the championship game. The dramatic win was short-lived, however, as Radnor fell to Rowan University in the finals. All in all, it was a great showing for the team to build on as they prepare for this weekend’s tournament at Edgley Fields, where they hope to replicate their season’s successes.
Ultimate Frisbee (Girls) – Sofie Jubelirer
Although not much has happened for the girls since the last roundup, RGUF is bringing the spirit to their practices everyday. With so many new faces, the team is excited to compete in the KitKat Tournament this weekend at Edgely Fields. Unlike last year, RGUF decided on making costumes for the tournament–featuring handmade jerseys, face glitter, and glitter hairspray. In other news, some of our girls competed last weekend in Flickadelphia and even ran into a few RGUF alumni. There will certainly be more to come in later sports roundups, as the girls look forward to the tournament season ahead.
