Sally Peg – Girls Lacrosse
Radnor Girls Lacrosse has set the tone for the remainder of the postseason tonight after a major playoff victory against Ridley with a dominant score of 10-4. The team has been practicing nonstop to prepare for the playoff season and that was undoubtedly demonstrated by their performance on Thursday night. This season has been filled with milestones for girls. Caroline Quinn has had a remarkably successful season taking the draws and earned the title of draw specialist on Varsity. Our two senior captains, Ryan Ertel and Fran Lucchesi both hit 100 career points. Both girls have worked exceptionally well together, running the offense seamlessly and building a powerful sense of community and chemistry within the team. Six players were awarded Central League honors including Caroline Quinn and Fran Lucchesi on 1st Team, Ryan Ertel on 2nd team, and Maeve Mucksavage, Merie Johnson and Sophie Baroni making honorable mention. The road ahead intensifies as Radnor prepares to face Conestoga in the next round; while this matchup promises to be challenging, the girls are confident, tested, and ready to prove that more of their best moments are still to come in the postseason.
Eli Knight – Boys Tennis
The Radnor Boys Tennis team season came to a close Tuesday the 12th with a tough loss to Abington Heights in the first round of states. The team suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat, but fought hard and was just one win short of a trip to Hershey. However, Sophomore Carter McClwain still has his own Hershey trip to look forward to, for the state singles tournament over Memorial Day Weekend. Though this season suffered a premature conclusion, the boys are excited to see what next year’s season holds for the team, as they will retain all but one of their varsity players. For now, RBT will look forward to next season optimistically, and could not be more thrilled with the progress and many successes that have marked their season this year!
Arielle Mims – Girls Crew
After the regular race season wrapped up with the last Manny Flick, Radnor Girls Crew Club participated in the City Championship regatta. Over the course of 2 days, RGCC faced tough competition in the fight for medals. On the first day, all boats advanced to finals, which would take place the next day. Although there was nice weather on the first day, the team was not as lucky on day 2. Wind gusts picked up, and some white caps even formed in the water. However, this did not stop the freshman eight and the lightweight four, as both boats pushed their way through and got 3rd place medals. The varsity eight got 5th, and the 2nd varsity eight got 4th. Overall, City Champs was a strong showing for RGCC, considering that it had been a few years since multiple boats medaled. Medaling at this race qualified both the freshman eight and lightweight four for nationals, which will take place in Tennessee on Memorial Day weekend. Senior night provided a much awaited celebration of RGCC’s 6 seniors: Claire Marino, Lizzie Martin, Catherine Oblack, Malaika Virk, Anna Wampole, and Maisie Wetzel, whom RGCC will dearly miss. The day after senior night, RGCC traveled to Mercer Lake in New Jersey for the Mid-Atlantic Regatta. The lightweight four raced in the varsity category, because there was no lightweight category in this Regatta. The lightweight four had much success and advanced to semifinals later that day, but unfortunately did not advance further by placing 7th. The varsity eight and 2nd varsity eight placed 10th and 11th, respectively, which was not enough to advance. However, the freshmen eight placed 2nd in semifinals, advancing to finals where they placed 5th. After not having done Mid-Atlantics for a few years, RGCC had a good run on their return to the regatta. This weekend RGCC will compete in the Stotesbury Regatta, the biggest high school regatta in the world, and also the biggest high school sporting event. Good luck to RGCC in their upcoming races!
Anrui Xu – Girls Frisbee
On the weekend of May 9-10, Radnor Girls Ultimate Frisbee played their hearts out at States, the final tournament of the year. They battled Pennsbury, Abington Friends, and Strath Haven in torrential rain on Saturday and then Springfield, AFS, and Science Leadership Academy on Sunday. The tournament was packed with highlights from newer and older players alike: sophomore Vijaya Caplan scored four points thanks to a string of impressive deep cuts while junior captains Lela Liu and Graci Gill drove the offense through difficult zone coverage. Also, senior Annika Dillon recorded an incredible seventeen defensive blocks. Ultimately, RGUF secured 6th place thanks to a thrilling 11-6 upset victory against SLA. The game was won in large part thanks to bold hucks and catches from upperclassmen like Dillon, Xu, and Liu. The three leaders finished the tournament with respective goals-assists statlines of 6-8, 7-4, and 3-8. Although the main competition is over, RGUF’s season isn’t complete yet; on Monday, May 18th, the team will hold a joint senior night with several other local teams to celebrate their graduating players, grow the frisbee community, and create some more exciting memories before the school year ends!
Kavin Thapar – Boys Frisbee
Radnor High School’s Boys Ultimate Frisbee team wrapped up its season this weekend at the Cities tournament, where they faced strong competition from Wissahickon, Garnet Valley, and Friends’ Central. The team’s closest game came against a tough Friends’ Central, with Radnor falling just short in a nail-biting 10–11 finish.
Throughout the tournament, Radnor competed with energy and determination while continuing to showcase the growth and potential the team demonstrated all season long. The weekend also marked the final games for seniors and captain Harrison Westby, Ian Kim, and Salih Altuntas. The team thanks them for their leadership, dedication, and contributions to the program over the years.
Luna MacCrory – Boys Lacrosse
The Radnor High School boys lacrosse team is heading into the postseason with momentum. They finished the regular season with a strong 13–4 record, earning the team fourth place in the Central League. One of their biggest wins came on May 8, when they defeated St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in an exciting and close match. That game showed the team’s ability to compete with top programs and execute in big moments. The offense has been led all season by Finn Petrone, the team’s top scorer and a consistent threat every time he steps on the field. His ability to create opportunities for himself and his team has been key to Radnor’s success. His brother, Riley Petrone, who is just a freshman, has also had a strong season and continues to be an important contributor on the offensive end. Captain Tommy Goldstein, a Cornell University commit, brings leadership, composure, and playmaking ability to the attack. He helps control the pace and creates opportunities for his teammates. On the defensive side, James Cox has been a standout performer. He plays with toughness and consistently matches up against top opposing players. Even though he is only a sophomore, James is really stepping up and is proving to have a promising future. In goal, Teddy Curry has been outstanding all season. He has made key saves in crucial moments and gives the team confidence on the defensive end. Head coach Mark Petrone has guided the group with a steady approach and strong leadership. The team has shown discipline and balance on both ends of the field. As the playoffs begin, Radnor will face the winner of Council Rock North and Haverford. With their depth, experience, and strong regular season, they look ready to make a deep postseason run.
Evan Duff – Boys Track
The boys track team has officially entered championship season, recently competing in Delco Championships. This meet has lived up to hype, with a podium finishes, sub 4:30 miles, and new personal records for some of our graduating seniors.
However, the true spotlight lies on one man. Zeph Yisrael. Zeph had a show-stopping performance at the Delco Championships, running a 21.8 in the 200m, breaking a school record that has stood for almost 40 years. On top of that, Zeph ran a 10.8 in the 100m, placing him top five all-time for this event at Radnor. These marks place Zeph top 20 in Pennsylvania for both of these events, putting Radnor on the map as a top-track team in the state. While Zeph was tearing up the shorter sprints, Noah Engstrom left his mark on the long sprints, running a 50.2 second 400m, earning himself a podium finish at Delco Championships.
Our distance runners also had a huge weekend as well, with many of our upperclassmen putting up notable performances. Senior captain Jack Wible ran a blistering 4:24 in the mile, getting 5th at Delco Championships. University of New South Wales Commit Owen Bradwell ran 1:55, placing him 8th at Delco Championships. Junior Aiden Haas went 1:56, with a close finish behind Bradwell.
On Wednesday, the team celebrated senior night. Thank you to all of our graduating seniors for all of their hard work and dedication over the past four years!
We look forward to seeing these runners and the 4×100 meter relay compete at the District Championships! So proud of what we’ve accomplished this season.
Danny Kim – Boys Crew
Following the City Championship, Radnor Boys Crew Club put forward a strong effort across all boats. Though the team felt the sting of disappointment, that energy quickly turned into motivation, heading back into practice. There has been an emphasis on positivity lately, and a big part of that comes down to senior captains Mohammed Badri and Veer Guar, who have been putting in the work every single day and channeling that energy into the rest of the team .
While at Cities, the Novice 8+ stole the show, taking 1st place on day one and coming back for bronze on day two. The JV 8+ pushed themselves hard, finishing 8th out of 13 and falling just two spots short of qualifying. The JV 4+ took on a tough draw and held their own at 17th out of 26, the Lightweight 4+ placed 8th out of 10, and the Varsity 2x finished 8th out of 15 with the second 2x giving everything they had.
At Mid-Atlantics, Radnor Boys Crew Club stepped into one of the most competitive fields of the season and did not back down. The Men’s Youth 8s finished 23rd and 34th, the Men’s Youth 4+ placed 16th and 23rd, and the Men’s Youth 2V8 came in 8th out of 10. The Novice 4+ earned a solid 6th, and the Novice 8+ closed the regatta out in style with a 2nd place on day one and 5th on day two. Now the season comes down to one last race, Stotesbury. The Radnor Boys Crew Club is ready, and they have something to prove.
