As students gear up for winter break, Radnor sports continue to make progress in their seasons. The players can look forward to fun-filled holiday celebrations and much-needed rest from schoolwork after practicing tirelessly over these past two weeks. But before we sing Christmas carols or light the menorah, the best gift of all is here: Edition #5 of the Radnor Sports Roundup.

Basketball (Boys) – Arielle Mims
In the past two weeks, Radnor Boys Basketball has been continuously prevailing. On December 1st, the team took on Interboro and won in a 70-51 game. Powerful defensive performances were seen from the team, with 21 total blocks in the game. The next day, RBB played against Avon Grove, and, once again, triumphed. Although the game was close well into the third quarter, RBB fought and came out on top, winning with a score of 63-49. A strong offensive performance was seen from Kessler Cox, who scored a whopping 25 points. Last Thursday, Radnor versed Penncrest at their home court. Although the final score was 37-41, Radnor put up a tough fight all throughout the close game. Last night, the team faced Harriton. RBB was back at it again, with Kessler Cox and Michael Savadove racking up a combined 30 points for the team–the boys won the home opener game (52-39). RBB is prepared to play against Marple Newton in a home game this Friday at 7:00pm.
Basketball (Girls) – Audrey Rubenstein and Kayla Cormier
RGB season has officially started, and they have hit the ground running. In their game against Penncrest, Kate Gallagher and Blayse Jennings both led the scoring with 10+ points each. Anna Reger was 100% at the free throw line and had 3 assists. The team’s hard work enabled RGB’s 47-29 victory. After the team’s season-opener, they played Downingtown East this past Saturday. The girls fought hard but ultimately lost. RGB took the defeat as motivation and came out strong to play Harriton on Tuesday. The win was a team effort, with high scorers being Nyah Yao (20 pts), Blayse Jennings (16 pts), and Kate Gallagher (13 pts). Caroline Monahan had 9 rebounds to propel the team to a 66-45 victory. RGB continues to grind in practice to prepare for their game this Friday at Marple. The team is preparing for another big win and is excited for the rest of the season!
Cheerleading – Trinity Emery
The cheerleaders are busy preparing for their competitions this weekend against local teams. On Saturday, the girls are going to be at Haverford High School and Sunday at Springfield High School. The team is also looking forward to cheering for Radnor High School Bocce and Basketball!
Ice Hockey (Girls) – Samantha Takefman
After a tough 0-1 loss against Lower Merion, the Girls Ice Hockey team was scheduled to face West Chester East the following day. Starting at 7:50pm, a hat trick by 8th grader Maeve White and goals from Meera Singh, Samantha Mitchell, Chloe Simonian, Cathryn Church, Madison Lynn, and Francesca Chrisy allowed the girls to take home a 10-5 win. They are set to play West Chester East again on Friday, December 15th and the Radnor community wishes them the best.
Squash (Boys) – Rhea Howard
Matches are finally underway, with the boys team having played their first two matches last week. Their first match took place last Thursday against the joint Harriton-Lower Merion team. The team lost 2-5, with wins from #1 William Krizek and #2 Luke Howard. The Radnor Boys’ Squash team played a tri-match against Episcopal Academy’s JV team and the Delbarton School last Saturday. Against Delbarton, Radnor lost 2-5, with wins from #1 William Krizek (3-1) and #2 Luke Howard (3-0). The other closest match was a 3-1 loss by senior William Meyer. A pattern seems to be setting in, as Radnor lost 2-5 to the EA JV team with wins from #1 William Krizek (3-1) and #2 Luke Howard (3-0). Senior William Meyer again got a game off his opponent before losing in four. This was the last Radnor Boys Squash match before the holiday break, but the team continues to train hard and anticipates better results in 2024. This weekend is the Junior US Open and Radnor Squash is proud to send its top three team members to the event. Wish William Krizek, Luke Howard, and Arjun Jaswal good luck in their matches this weekend!
Squash (Girls) – Julia Sareen
The Radnor Girls Squash Team played their first match against Conestoga last week! The match definitely had some highlights, with Rhea Howard winning 3-1 and Julia Sareen winning 3-2; however, the girls weren’t able to secure the win. This afternoon, December 13th, they are set to play their second match against HLM. On Friday, the team will take on Agnes Irwin. The girls are also very excited for co-captain Rhea Howard to play in the US Open this December. Stay tuned for info on this week’s matches.
Swimming (Boys) – Jacob Kellerman
Radnor boys swimming has been in the midst of the early season grind for the last month and is excited to race after thousands of tough yards at practices. Looking forward, the boys have a packed next three weeks with pasta parties, multiple morning practices, and three meets. The Raptors face Marple Newtown at home this Thursday. Highly anticipated freshman swimmer Ethan Chang will be making his debut, along with a few other hidden early season weapons. Seasoned swimmer and senior captain Colin Mucksavage is anticipating “electric swims from our boys.” The Raptors will race at the Delco Invitational this Saturday against several other Central League teams at Ridley High School. “Delcos is where we’ll get our benchmark times for the rest of the season with so much competition from some really fast swimmers,” says junior Timmy Ledbetter. After one more meet to wrap up 2023 against rival Lower Merion, the Raptors will buckle down for two weeks of tough winter break practices before the new year.
Swimming (Girls) – Cailin Kelly

The Delco Invite meet will be on Saturday at Ridley, where the girls will be able to swim against a wide range of schools from Delaware County.
