Basketball (Girls) – Kayla Cormier & Audrey Rubenstein
Radnor Girls Basketball has been on a roll, evidenced by their impressive 18-4 record. Starting January 25, RGB faced (and dominated) their opponents, including Penncrest, Harriton, and Downingtown West. Senior Blayse Jennings scored a season high of 17 points against Downingtown West. Caroline Monahan contributed with 10 rebounds to help lead the team to a 51 -34 win. On Tuesday, January 30, the team celebrated our four incredible seniors: Kate Gallagher, Blayse Jennings, Caroline Monahan, and Audrey Rubenstein. That night, the girls worked together to secure yet another important win over Marple with a score of 60-36. The next two games had similar results: RGB took on Strath Haven and Springfield, obtaining the last two regular-season victories, which enabled their 2nd-seed placement in Districts and 4th in the Central Athletic League. Thursday, February 8 marks RGB’s third matchup against Penncrest this year. The teams play to advance in the 2024 Central League Playoffs. Go RGB!
Cheerleading – Trinity Emery
The cheerleaders are heading to Nationals! After their showcase on February 7, the cheerleaders are prepared to perform and leave their all on the mat. We wish the cheerleaders luck as they compete against teams across the nation.
Color Guard – Sofiia Kuzmenko
Radnor Color Guard is excited to present to you this year’s show—The Forbidden Dance, a story of passionate and foolish love narrated by the performers. The show already had its competition debut at Springford High School and the team scored 55.25 points. If you wish to see the show and cheer on the color guard, you can do so at their next competitions on February 10th at Penncrest High School and on February 17th at Avon Grove High School.
Ice Hockey (Girls) – Samantha Takefman
On Sunday night, the Radnor Girls Ice Hockey team had their senior night ceremony shortly before playing against Pennridge. With speeches and handcrafted posters delivered to all the seniors, spirits were high going into the game. In the first half, the girls were up 6-3 with seniors Laura Girton and Erin Tobias providing assists and senior Chloe Simonian scoring. The girls won with a score of 8-3 with 32 saved goals by senior goalie Ashley Van Trieste. The biggest game of the season, the Main Line Cup, is on February 14th. Until then, the girls will be hard at work, fighting to keep their trophy.
Squash (Boys) – Rhea Howard
Radnor Boys Squash has had a busy few weeks of matches, including Shipley JV on January 17, Princeton Day School on January 26, and Conestoga JV on February 1. In the match against Shipley JV, Radnor came away with a 5-2 victory thanks to wins from #1 Will Krizek, #2 Arjun Jaswal, #3 Luke Howard, and from Co-Captains #5 Will Meyer and #6 Eli Frankel. Jaswal’s match had the most drama, as he pushed through in a mid-match injury to win in 5 games and Luke won 3 games in 8 minutes. In the Princeton Day School match, Radnor was outclassed and lost 1-6. Luke Howard, playing in the 3rd position, won in 3 games, but in all other matches, Radnor did not win a game. Conestoga’s B team had a similar outcome, with the team dropping 6 out of 7 matches. The team was not at full strength, with a few players out with injuries. Luke Howard played in the #1 position and won his match in three games, but otherwise it was a tough team match against the cross town rivals. Radnor could have been even busier, but two other matches, against Lawrenceville and Germantown Friends JV, were canceled. This week, Radnor Varsity wraps their season with a match at Malvern Prep. The capstone to the season will be when both Radnor Boys and Girls compete in High School Nationals in Philadelphia over the last weekend in February.
Squash (Girls) – Julia Sareen
This past Monday, the Girls Squash team took on Baldwin on their away court. It was a tough match, as each player faced off against a higher seed with some players being absent. However, the girls pulled through with a 4-4 tie. The wins came from Meera Singh, Mia Richter, Ella Starzyk, and captain Rhea Howard. Next week is a quiet one for the team in terms of matches as they gear up for nationals at the end of February.
Swimming (Boys) – Jacob Kellerman
Radnor Boys Swimming wrapped up its dual meet season last Monday with a tough loss to Ridley, finishing off the 2023-2024 season with a 5-2 record. Some boys ended their season last weekend at the Silver League Meet, recording new bests and showing some promising growth from the beginning of the season—notably from Sophomore Samuel Stueck in the 200 freestyle. The remaining Raptors began their post-season taper at practices early this week to prepare for Centrals this Friday and Saturday. With many of the boys district-hopeful, Radnor hopes to send as many swimmers as possible to the meet. Radnor’s 200 medley (Chang, Yu, Kellerman, and Jones) and 200 freestyle relays (Chang, Ledbetter, Jones, and Yu) are hoping to place on the podium and make a run at States. “Centrals is where I’ve had all my best times in the past, it’s just a really fast meet,” says junior Howard Feng. Expect lightning fast times from our boys this weekend.
Swimming (Girls) – Cailin Kelly
As we reach the postseason for RGSWIM, the excitement only continues. On January 29, Radnor had their final meet against Ridley High School and crushed them with a final score of 128-58. On February 3, Radnor went back to Ridley to compete against the central league at Silver Champs. The 200 Freestyle relay placed 6th, consisting of Rafa Goncalves, Nikki Malur, Caitlin Roeltgen, and Kate Wetzel! On February 9, the swimmers with qualifying times will compete at Centrals as part of the postseason. We wish the girls luck as they continue to fight for qualifying times. We’re so proud of RGSWIM!
